ALL ABOUT LABRADORS

All About Labradors started in October 2011. This is a private website and managed and maintained by friends. All funds are used to maintain the website and offer information about Labrador Breeders, Litters, Show Achievements, etc. ENJOY YOUR STAY!

Everyone loves the Labrador’s natural affability and gentle, loyal look in it’s eyes. Beneath that solid physique and kind nature are hidden other unusual qualities that make the Labrador truly versatile. Hailing from Nova Scotia, the breed still retains characteristics resulting from the regions harsh climate - an almost waterproof coat, a natural love of water, a body composition which is rich in fats and incredible enthusiasm and energy.

The Labrador’s performance as a hunting dog and in particular it’s outstanding visual and cognitive (memory) capacity, is a result of these natural qualities, enhanced by careful selection by breeders over many years. The skin and coat of a Labrador form a barrier against outside attack and the Labrador produces more than three times as much sebum as other breeds. The sebum makes the coat very waterproof and when a Labrador emerges from the water the impression is that the dog is hardly wet at all.

TYPICALLY LABRADOR

He comes in chocolate, black or yellow.

He can turn on in the field or just be mellow.

He can break through ice and swim with ease,

and for his master he lives to please.

You can toss something away to no avail,

he’ll just bring it back, wagging his otter tail.

When it comes to versatility no other breed can compete,

in retrieving ducks or guiding the blind across the street.

It doesn’t matter if you come home late,

he waits patiently at the kennel gate.

He longs to be with the family in the house,

or crash through the alders for his first ruffed grouse.

You can give to him compliments galore

He deserves them all, he’s a LABRADOR
